Nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the beach and I miss that feeling of lightness and freedom it gives so much. Perhaps that's why we collect shells and keep them in jars when we get home - to remind us of how we feel when we are near the sea?
Shells have been treasured since ancient times - collections were found in the ruins of Pompeii and many cultures in Asia and Africa used shells as currency. British Stately homes often had shell grottos or rooms full of shell collections to reflect their high status.
When I first started making jewellery one of my earliest collections was Beachcomber and the Sea Charms pendant is still one of my most poplar pieces.
Each shell is hand cast using silver clay and this video gives you a sneak peek behind the scenes showing the process of how I make them.
If you would like to have a go at making a shell pendant at home I now offer a kit which has all the equipment and clear, step-by-step instructions to help you make your very own unique piece of jewellery.
